Cowboys RB DeMarco Murray needs surgery on hand, status in doubt

It's no secret, the reason the Dallas Cowboys are enjoying success this season is because of a rebuilt and overpowering running game lead by running-back DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys playoff chances just took a major hit though as it was announced today that Murray will need surgery after suffering a hand injury Sunday night against the Eagles.

According to CBSDFW.com, Stephen Jones (son to owner Jerry Jones) told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that Murray will have surgery to repair a broken bone in his left hand. It's not a major injury, or major surgery by any means, but his status for Sunday's game against the Indianapolis Colts is in doubt.

"Obviously. DeMarco Murray has a broken bone in his hand," Jones said. "At the same time, he hasn't been ruled out. It's not something that if it responds well after surgery today, that he can't come back and play this weekend. it's probably a tough expectation to think that he can, but we'll see."

Although some analysts think Murray still has a chance to play. Albert Breer of NFL Network is one of them.

Murray has averaged 27 touches per game this season, a mark which ranks him number-one in the league. It's especially concerning because of his injury history.

Murray is far and away the league leader in rushing with 1,687 yards on 351 carries, which ranks as most in franchise history. If Murray isn't able to go this Sunday, then Lance Dunbar and Joseph Randle will be used in committee fashion, and the new Dallas offensive-line will really be put to the test.
