Matt Reeves, the filmmaker behind Cloverfield and this summer's blockbuster hit Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, already has his next project in place: another Planet of the Apes sequel, scheduled to hit theaters on July 29, 2016. But he also has a plan for when he is done with the new blockbuster.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves has signed on to direct an untitled bank heist movie in the same vein as Dog Day Afternoon and Heat. The movie is based on a pitch by Matt Charman, on an idea he and Matt Plouffe conceived several years ago. Plot details are being kept under wraps at the moment.
In addition to directing, Reeves will also produce alongside Plouffe and Tobey Maguire. That's right, Spider-Man Tobey Maguire, who is also producing a couple other films at the moment, including the apocalypse drama Z for Zachariah and the YA sci-fi film The Fifth Wave, under his Material Pictures banner. He also produced some other features in the past, including 25th Hour, Rock of Ages and Seabiscuit.
Also, while Charman is not a household name, he is definitely coming up in Hollywood. He wrote Steven Spielberg's upcoming untitled Cold War spy thriller with Tom Hanks, currently in production, and this year's Suite Francaise.
As reported by Deadline, Reeves signed on to direct another Planet of the Apes movie back in January, and is also helping write the movie as we speak. Of course, this will be keeping him busy for at least a year, but Reeves at least knows what he wants to do when he's done with this monkey business.
