'Inherent Vice' star Katherine Waterston lands female lead in upcoming Steve Jobs biopic

By now, it seems everyone in Hollywood has been optioned or considered being in the Aaron Sorkin-penned Steve Jobs biopic, but today brings the news of someone actually committed to the movie. Despite Kate Winslet being in talks for the female lead in the film, Katherine Waterston has landed the part of Chrisaan Brennan, the mother of Jobs' first child.

Deadline reported the casting. Despite Winslet's being in talks, Waterston, daughter of actor Stan Waterston (The Newsroom), has now been offered the part. The actress is receiving tons of praise at the moment for her supporting work in Paul Thomas Anderson's Inherent Vice, which may have gotten her the part in the new Universal film.

Also up for the part at one point was Natalie Portman, who passed on the film earlier this month.

Waterston joins Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak and Michael Stulberg as Andy Hertzfeld, the computer scientist and inventor part of the original Apple team who designed the Macintosh Operating System. Also rumored to star in the film is Jeff Daniels. The film, to be directed by Danny Boyle, follows Jobs during three key moments in his professional career.

Considering Inherent Vice is my most anticipated film of the year, I'm eager to see Waterston's work in the movie, and take this as a good sign of what many have considered a highlight in Anderson's new movie. In addition to this film, Waterston can soon be seen in Manhattan Romance, Queen of Earth and Fluidic.
