Jack Kovacs releases 'The State Line'

Jake Kovacs has released The State Line and the album, which features, seven tracks, is a strong introduction from Kovacs to the music industry. Kovacs highlights his singer-songwriter style and seems like it would fit into well with the soft rock/pop industry which has been expanding.

Kovacs has a very similar vocal style to of that of Luke Hemmings from 5 Seconds of Summer or John Vesely from Secondhand Serenade. He is subtle and slowly builds as he performances on every track. He has the ability to really tell a story while he is singing and draw the audience in with his smooth tone and organic feel.

The album contains a strong indie, acoustic feel infused with older influences like that of Paul Simon but Kovacs tries to modernize his sound and really capitalize on the current music landscape. Which at times works, singles like "Jenny" and "The Empty House" are strong singles from Kovacs and could do well with audiences who are looking for new acoustic rock music.

The downside is this album does feel like an early debut. It has a lower production quality and does feel like a sampling of music instead of a whole album. Kovacs has the ability to write beautiful songs that are visual and tell a story but this EP could have felt like a complete picture, instead it feels like individual singles that don't flow well together.

The talent is their and the musicianship is clear. Kovacs choice of guitar rifts do compliment his vocal range and show off his talent but it will take time and effort to take this album from feeling like a debut EP to a strong chart topping contender.

Stand out tracks on the album include, "Jenny" and "The Empty House."
