The final score was Cincinnati Bengals 30, Cleveland Browns 0. What's worst of all for Johnny Manziel and the Browns is that the score turned out to signify a closer game than what actually transpired on Sunday.
Manziel's day can be summarized with a very brief, slow-motion video:
Manziel's first career start was disastrous. He completed 10 of 18 passes for only 80 yards to go along with two terrible interceptions, notes CBS Sports. The very mobile quarterback couldn't even escape the pocket to run around for some yards at least, finishing with only 13 yards on the ground.
The Bengals defense completely dominated.
"First time I've ever not scored a point or been shut out," Manziel said following the game. "Played in a lot of games, through high school and through college. Never been shut out, so it's definitely tough," according to ESPN.
"You don't really envision that in your head," Manziel said. "I left some throws on the field I would have wanted back. ... I felt like I could do everything I needed to from the pocket yesterday. Whenever I did have the chance to break the pocket, I felt some things happened where we weren't able to capitalize on."
To add insult to injury, Bengals players were even mocking the infamous "Money Manziel" gesture seen oh so many times by the man himself. Wallace Gilberry showed it off like a pro.
The fact is, Manziel is a rookie, and most NFL veterans take major issue with the publicity any player receives before accomplishing anything in the league. There are talented, freakish athletes plugged into every roster spot on all 32 teams, and they love it when an opportunity like this arrives.
Manziel will need to prove his worth moving forward. The 7-7 Browns will face the Carolina Panthers this Sunday.
