Everyone and their brother knows Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be a box office juggernaut, and so does DreamWorks Animation. That's why they're pushing their new animated movie Kung Fu Panda 3 from its December 23, 2015 release to March 18, 2016.
Variety revealed the date switch. This now places Kung Fu Panda 3 up against The Divergent Series: Allegiant-Part 1. This new release date occupies where the DreamWorks Animation's Boss Baby, featuring the voices of Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey, was supposed to debut. A new release date for that film has not been determined at this moment.
This is just the second film DreamWorks Animation delayed in the past two months, with B.O.O.: Bureau of Otherwordly Operations, starring Seth Rogen and Melissa McCarthy in the lead voice roles, being moved from its summer 2015 date to an indefinite new time. In addition to this title, Pan is being moved from its July 17 release date to one week later on July 24.
Starring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman and Bryan Cranston, Kung Fu Panda 3 returns Kung Fu Panda 2 helmer Jennifer Yuh to the director's chair, as this new adventure has Po (Black) battling two threats: one supernatural, while the other at home. This is not the next DreamWorks Animation film, as Home is slated for release March 27, 2015. Meanwhile, the latest DreamWorks Animation film, The Penguins of Madagascar, is currently in theaters.
