Margaret Keane, the subject of Tim Burton's 'Big Eyes', reveals her thoughts on the film

Between Angelina Jolie's Unbroken, Into the Woods and Seth Rogen's controversial comedy The Interview, Tim Burton's latest, Big Eyes, starring Amy Adams and Christoph Waltz, seems largely forgotten about as it also celebrates its Christmas Day release. But at least one person saw it, and her opinion is perhaps the most important of all: Margaret Keane, the subject of the new biopic.

Speaking with People, the '50s artist, played by Adams, revealed her reaction to the new movie.

"I was in shock," the now 87-year-old Keane said after seeing her life story brought to the big screen. "It was like I was seeing him again."

The "him" she is referring to her is Walter Keane, played by Waltz, her husband who passed away in 2000. As the film depicts, Walter was the man who took Margaret's wide-eyed paintings and passed them off as his own. According to People's article, he would even force his wife to be imprisoned in a closed-curtain room for up to 16 hours at a time drawing these paintings for his benefit.

Big Eyes premiered at the AFI Film Festival last month and is now making its way into theaters. Opening in 1,307 locations thus far, the release is being considered something of a disappointment so far, according to Box Office Mojo, as it raised a mere $1.4 million this Thursday.
