'Selma' star Tessa Thompson joins Michael B. Jordan in 'Rocky' spin-off 'Creed'

If you haven't heard the name Tessa Thompson, that'll likely change. The actress, seen in Dear White People and Selma, is having quite the year, and will (hopefully) be showcased a lot more in the years to come. Now, she has decided on her next role, starring as the female lead in the Rocky spin-off, Creed.

As Deadline reports in an exclusive, Thompson will star alongside Michael B. Jordan, who has been cast in the title role since last year, and Sylvester Stallone, who's reprising Rocky Balboa for the movie. Other than playing an Adrian-like character in the film, not much else is known about Thompson's character at the moment.

Directed by Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station) and written by Coogler and Aaron Covington, Creed centers on Apollo Creed's grandson (Jordan), who gets trained and mentored by Balboa. Stallone, in addition to Kevin King, is producing the movie alongside Rocky producers Irwin Winkler and Robert Chartoff. Last month, The Hollywood Reporter stated Creed begins production in January, filming in both Philadelphia and Las Vegas, but this has not been confirmed since then.

In addition to Dear White People and Selma, Thompson also is known for her performances on Veronica Mars, Cooper and in For Colored Girls. She will next be seen in The Prop is the Girl.
