Julianne Moore must want an Oscar, which might explain why she took on a difficult role centering on an illness that has touched millions of lives. She stars in Still Alice, a film about a professor dealing with early onset Alzheimer's Disease.
A new trailer for the film was posted on Yahoo Movies this week, highlighting several key moments in the film. The scene where Dr. Alice Howland (Moore) has to tell her children about her diagnosis is particularly heartbreaking.
Moore, 54, told the site that she feels very lucky to be in the film and being in the middle of all this Oscar talk.
“I was just in the middle of my research [for the movie] this time last year, so I feel astonished that it happened and feel grateful that people are talking about us,” she said.
The film was directed by Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland. Sony Pictures Classics released the film in select cities just before the end of the year so it will be eligible for awards, but won’t be seen nationwide until Jan. 16.
“It was so unusual for me to see a disease depicted completely subjectively, from the patient’s point of view,” Moore told Yahoo. “This is really her story from the inside.”
Moore’s co-stars include Kristen Stewart, Kate Bosworth and Alec Baldwin.
