'Supernatural' Recap: "Hibbing 911"

Our good old friend Jody Mills has been called away to a Minnesota-Dakotas Sheriffs' Retreat where she runs into Donna Hanscum, a sheriff previously seen in the episode with the fat-sucking monsters. Of course, even though she’s lost some weight, her ex-husband is still a fat—shaming prick. The sheriffs are asked to pick a partner for the weekend, and since she was on the phone while everyone was finding a partner, Jody gets shackled with Donna.

While looking over retreat programs, our odd pairing learns about a murder where the victim’s body was eaten down to the bone. Having knowledge that this could possibly be something supernatural rather than an animal attack, Jody calls the boys to let them know, but says they don’t need to come and she can handle it.

Of course, the boys are gonna come anyway. While they make their way to Jody, her and Donna check out the body at the morgue and don’t get any closer to finding out what caused this. And later that night, the monster takes another victim.

So our oddly paired sheriff team trys talking to the local authorities but come up with nothing. Of course, overly suspecting Jody asks the local authority Sheriff, Cuse, about it again and he admits that there had been another murder but wanted to keep it quiet to keep all the out-of-town sheriffs out of it.

So Sam and Dean show up and follow up on the case while our sheriffs go check out the gun exhibit, where Jody finally gets sick of Jody’s ex-husband and calls him out on his terrible personality. Donna gets mad at Jody for how she treated her ex-husband and tells her she shouldn’t judge until she’s lost a husband. And on cue, the show flashes back to the night Jody’s husband was murdered.

Taking a little time away from each other, Donna goes to get some fresh air when she stumbles across Cuse, crouched over a dead sheriff while showing off some vampire fangs. Donna tells Jody what she saw and she quickly calls Sam who inconveniently doesn’t answer his phone. Leaving him a quick message, the two sheriff’s check out Cuse’s room for themselves finding a lot of sunblock there which seems unnecessary considering it’s not even summertime.
The two of them are interrupted when Sam and Dean barge into the room. Jody then explains who Sam and Dean are and what Cuse really is. Luckily, Donna takes the news surprisingly well and even found an address where Cuse is more than likely hiding out.

The four of them arrive at the abandoned farm house armed with machetes. They spot him through a window but he quickly disappears and reappears telling them all to run, but he’s too late as they are knocked out by someone else. Turns out Cuse isn’t the vampire they had to worry about.

According to Lynn, one of the vampires in this vampire nest, Cuse had started the group but ran away to start anew. Of course the vampires will take him back if he eats the prisoners though. Cuse refuses and Lynn beheads him since he won’t rejoin them.

Luckily, Lynn is the type of villain who likes to talk and as she blabs on and on, Dean and Donna free themselves from their bonds. While the boys take care of the other vampires, Donna beheads Lynn before she can harm Jody. “Hakuna matata, lady,” she says as she watches the body fall to the floor.

With the monsters taken care of, Jody offers to teach Donna all about the supernatural side of crime, while Dean claims he didn’t feel the Mark of Cain compelling him to kill, causing this writer to wonder just how true that is.
