Watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt scale the Twin Towers in first teaser for Robert Zemeckis' 'The Walk'

It'll be a little less than a year before The Walk, the newest film from Academy Award-winning director Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump), comes waltzing into theaters. But Sony decided to give moviegoers a brief peak at their upcoming 2015 film, with a teaser trailer for the Joseph Gordon-Levitt-starring feature hitting the web this morning.

This first preview, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly, doesn't tell us much, only showing Levitt as renowned aerialist Philippe Petit—accompanied with red hair and blue contacts to play the part—as he scales the World Trade Center and gets ready for his big tightrope walk. The events of The Walk take place in 1974, three decades before the 9/11 attacks happened, with the buildings recreated through green screen and CGI wizardry.

It's hard to tell this early if the cinematic recreation of the 110-story fallen skyscrapers will be responded with awe or melancholy, but it appears the main focus of this teaser is to capture the excitement of Petit's incredible stunt. The Walk, as the teaser proclaims, will screen in 3D and IMAX 3D when it comes into theaters October 2, 2015, so expect—if anything else—one unique cinematic experience.

This is the first look audiences have had for The Walk since Levitt sneaked a photo from the set this July, alongside co-star Charlotte Le Bon. This will not be the first time Petit's adventure will be seen on the screen, as it was also the focus of the Oscar-winning documentary Man on Wire in 2008 from director James Marsh (The Theory of Everything).
