Will Ferrell has tackled everything from competitive news anchors to competitive ice skating, so him tackling the competitive world of a Shakespearean theater company is perhaps not too far from his wheelhouse. That's what Sony is hoping at least, for they are brewing up a new starring vehicle for Ferrell on the matter.
Variety got word on the new movie, based on a pitch from David Guion and Michael Handelman, the screenwriters behind Dinner for Schmucks and the upcoming Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. Looking over the untitled production will be Michael De Luca and Jonathan Kadin.
Details are skim at the moment on anything else on the film. This is not the only movie Sony is working with Ferrell on at the moment, though, as they're also making the upcoming buddy comedy Border Guards, which reunites Talladega Nights/Step Brothers stars Ferrell and John C. Reilly. That film was first announced back in April, but still is locked in development at the moment.
After being heard in The Lego Movie and seen in the mini-series The Spoils of Babylon earlier this year, Ferrell has a busy year ahead of him in 2015. He stars in Get Hard with Kevin Hart, James Franco's Zeroville and Daddy's Home, which reunites him with his Other Guys co-star Mark Wahlberg. He may also be returning to his role in Zoolander for its sequel one of these days too.
If he didn't have enough reunions coming up, he is also planning to reunite with his Campaign co-star Zach Galifiankis in Larry's Kidney, from Boyhood director Richard Linklater, but production on that film is sort of up in the air.
