Director Kenneth Longergan is no stranger to struggles with his movies, especially considering the six-year journey it took to bring his last movie Margaret to the big screen. So it shouldn't be too surprising his follow-up Manchester-By-The-Sea would have some difficulty as well. Originally set to star Matt Damon, the Bourne star can no longer do the movie, with Casey Affleck taking over his place.
The Boston Globe got ahold of the changed casting news. Damon was going to play a plumber who returns home following his brother's death to look after his 16-year-old nephew, only to discover a huge secret from their past, but his buddy Ben's brother will be playing the part due to the Academy-Award winner's busy schedule with Ridley Scott's The Martian. This new movie was set to reunite Damon with Lonergan, as he starred in Margaret.
There's no word yet on when the drama is scheduled to hit production, but Damon already has a busy future in place this year as he also scheduled to star in Alexander Payne's Downsizing
and a new Bourne with director Paul Greengrass.
Affleck is next set to be seen in Triple Nine. He was just seen in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar last year.
