Florida elderly woman pays $164K a year to live on a cruise ship

Lee Wachtstetter decided to retire in a more luxurious way.

According to People Magazine, the 86-year-old woman used to live in Florida but moved out of her home seven years ago to instead live aboard Crystal Serenity for just $164,000 a year.

USA Today reports that she sold her five-bedroom home in the For Lauderdale-area after her husband passed away.

“My husband introduced me to cruising,” she said. “Mason was a banker and real estate appraiser and taught me to love cruising. During our 50-year marriage we did 89 cruises. I’ve done nearly a hundred more and 15 world cruises.”

Aboard the boat, she is referred as Mama Lee and has been living among the 1,070 passengers for almost seven years.

The 86-year-old admits to USA Today that she misses her family but she does keep in contact with them online and when the ship docks in Miami which happened five times last year.

“The day before my husband died of cancer in 1997, he told me, ‘Don’t stop cruising.’ So here I am today living a stress-free, fairy-tale life,” she said.
