Full List of Oscar Nominations: 'American Sniper' has strong showing, 'Grand Budapest Hotel' and 'Birdman' score most

The nominees for the 87th Academy Awards were announced in Hollywood this morning, with Chris Pine, J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron joining Academy President Cheryl Boone-Isaacs at the podium.

Of course, there were plenty of surprises and snubs, as there are every year. Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper had a surprisingly strong showing, with six nominations. However, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel scored the most nominations with nine. Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman earned eight nominations, while Richard Linklater’s Boyhood had six - but six very important nominations.

Also, only eight films were nominated for Best Picture. It's the first time since the Academy switched to 5-10 nominees in the category that less than nine were nominated.

The Oscars are on Feb. 22, live on ABC. Neil Patrick Harris is hosting.
