Gabrielle Union says she has her own 'wagon and star' apart from husband Dwyane Wade

Gabrielle Union set the record straight about signing a pre-nup when she married NBA star Dwyane Wade this past summer, saying she has her own identity and career.

They got married in Miami in August, but even before that, she revealed that she was the one who asked Wade for a pre-nup.

"For women in Hollywood, when they're coupling, everything is about the brand,” she told Yahoo News. “Everything is about latching on to a rising star, so you can kick your heels up. That's never been my story, ever. I make sure to let people know all of the hard work that's gone into my career."

The Being Mary Jane star, 42, said she worked her way through attending UCLA and ate “Top Ramen” during that time. But she’s made a name for herself in the industry and plans to continue making her mark.

“Now that it’s time to get married to a man who happens to play basketball and has done well for himself, I want to make it clear that I have in no way hitched my wagon to his star. I have my own wagon and star,” she said.

Union first talked about the pre-nup plans on The Arsenio Hall Show in February, saying she has to “protect my stuff."
