'Gotham' Recap: 'What the Little Bird Told Him'

The episode begins with the recently escaped Gruber and his “creation” Aaron walking into an electronics store. Gruber is looking for his stuff and shocks one of the men inside. Gruber then goes into the back and finds his items still there and appear to be functional. He performs the same electroshock therapy to the second employee of the store.

Captain Essing is briefing everyone at GCPD about the Gruber situation when Jim arrives. He wants to help and that this is his case to solve. Harvey tries to get him out of there but they run into the police commissioner. The commissioner speaks to them and Jim pleads his case with the commissioner. Jim lies to the commissioner and tells him he knows that Gruber will do next. The commissioner gives them 24 hours to find Gruber or they will both lose their jobs.

We see Falcone thinking of his past while his men execute someone under the bridge. He is talking with Liza as they are walking and Falcone is telling her about where he came from. Liza is very proud because he became somebody in this town. Falcone feels bad for keeping Liza in his house and wants her to have her own life. Liza refuses his offer…wanting to stay with him.

Edward brings some useful information to Harvey and Jim. Jack Gruber is a career criminal whose actual name is Jack Prasinski. They find out that Gruber still has partners and connections on the outside. Harvey and Jim find the van Gruber used to escape Arkahm. They go inside the electronics store and find one employee dead and the second employee in a state of shock.

Liza is walking down the street when a group of men jump out of a van and kill her escorts then kidnap her. It is revealed that Fish was behind the kidnapping and tells Liza she is preparing to make her move on Falcone. She calls Falcone and disguises her voice and tells him that Liza has been kidnapped. Falcone looks desperate and will do anything to get her back.

‘The Electrocutioner Strikes!’ is the headline on the front page of The Gotham Gazette. Edward tries to convince Harvey and Jim to wear the department issued galoshes to help with an electrical issues they might encounter. Dr. Thompkins arrives at GCPD and talks with Jim and shows him a doll and explains that the Arkham inmates would make dolls of people they wanted to curse. The doll made by Gruber looks very similar to Maroni.

Oswald is eating with Maroni and his family when Falcone calls him. Falcone tells him Liza has been kidnapped and he needs Oswald now. Oswald smiles at the events that are beginning to unfold. Oswald is leaving when he tries to open the door and is shocked and flies across the room. We see one of Maroni’s men walk in with what appears to be an electrical bomb that explodes. Maroni makes it outside, unharmed with what he calls a silent bomb.

Jim talks with Maroni outside an ambulance and says he knows that he is one of Gruber’s old colleagues. He wants to place Maroni in protective custody. Oswald wakes up in a disillusioned state and accidentally says he has urgent business with Falcone, not his mother. Maroni and his family arrive at GCPD…Maroni giving a disconcerting look to an unconscious Oswald.

Barbara arrives at her parent’s mansion. She wants to stay there for a few days and she lies to her parents about her relationship with Jim. She claims that they are very happy together. Edward continues to try and interact with Ms. Kringle but someone finally tells Edward to leave her alone. Edward overhears Ms. Kringle tell the man that he is very weird.

Jim promises Maroni that Gruber will come for him. Oswald wakes up and Maroni tells him him what he actually said. Oswald looks stunned and confused.

Falcone gets a phone call from Fish. She tries to lie to him but he immediately knows that she is the one who kidnapped Liza. Fish says she won’t be hurt but he has to leave Gotham forever and he can take Liza with him. Falcone agrees. Butch wants to celebrate with Fish but Fish says she is doing him a favor. She claims that eventually someone would take out Falcone. She will let Liza leave with him but she can never tell Falcone the truth about her.

Falcone looks defeated when Victor Zsasz walks in. Falcone questions what he is doing and Victor tries to convince him he is fighting for respect. He wants Victor to make sure the transaction of getting Liza back goes smoothly and safely.

Oswald is pleading his case with Maroni. Maroni seems skeptical to believe him. Gruber is setting up his machine outside the back of the GCPD. The room starts shaking and electrical currents start shooting through GCPD and the currents knock out everyone in the room.

Gruber walks inside a dark GCPD and finds Maroni unconscious. Gruber is upset his machine didn’t do more and Jim arrives with his gun drawn. Jim gets into a fight with Aaron and eventually knocks him out. Gruber pleads with Jim to let him just kill Maroni. He is preparing his machine when Jim simply throws a cup of water on the machine, rendering it useless.

The police commissioner reinstates Jim as a detective for GCPD. Jim talks with Harvey and says he is done being careful. Oswald arrives at Falcone’s mansion and tells Falcone the truth about Liza. Falcone refuses to believe it and talks with Fish and arranges a meeting time at her club.

Fish and Falcone meet at her club. Fish wants Falcone to relinquish any power he has over the family. He is relieved to see Liza unharmed. He then confronts her about her relationship with Fish. Victor arrives with Falcone’s group and they surround Fish and Butch. Falcone apologizes to Liza because he got mixed up in this. He then strangles Liza to death. Falcone wants to keep Fish and Butch alive and Oswald walks out and smiles at Fish while she glares back at him.

Dr. Thompkins meets with Jim in the locker room where it appears she has feelings for Jim. The two finally kiss and are interrupted by a police officer who tells Jim there has been a big shootout at Fish’s club.
