Julia Roberts to star in and produce 'Batkid' feature film

The adorable story of Miles Scott, who wished to be Batman for a day, has already been turned into a documentary. Now, it’s becoming a feature film starring Julia Roberts.

The Oscar winner signed on for the project on Friday, Variety reports. It will be based on Dana Nachman’s documentary Batkid Begins: The Wish Heard Around The World, which is being screened at Sundance today.

Roberts is set to produce under her Red Om Films Banner. Nachman is also joining as an executive producer.

“It’s thrilling to me that Ms. Roberts and her team watched our film and were so moved by it that they want to dedicate their time and creative capital to make sure the widest audience possible will know and love Miles’ story and the spirit of this intimate special event that went global, as much as we do,” Nachman said in a statement.

Back in November 2013, Miles’ incredible story went viral after the Make-A-Wish Foundation pulled off a complete transformation of San Francisco, turning it into Gotham City for a day. Miles, who was diagnosed with leukemia, got to dress up as Batkid and helped stop a ‘robbery’ by Batman’s villains.

Roberts was nominated for an Oscar for her supporting performance in August: Osage County last year. She’s also up for a SAG Award this weekend for The Normal Heart.
