Paul Rudd officially credited as co-writer of Marvel's 'Ant-Man'

Despite a very bumpy road and a shuffle or two in the director's chairs, Marvel's Phase 2-ending Ant-Man is coming to theaters on July 17, 2015, as celebrated by yesterday's trailer premiere. While it already was well-known Paul Rudd was starring as the titular character, the actor has officially been credited as co-writer alongside Adam McKay.

In a press release from Disney, found via Screen Rant, the studio announced Rudd and McKay have received primary screenwriting credit on the new superhero movie. Meanwhile, original director Edgar Wright and his writing partner Joe Cornish have now gotten a story credit, while Wright is also listed as an executive producer.

McKay, best known for being the director behind Will Ferrell-vehicles like the Anchorman movies, is no stranger to the screenwriting world. But this will only be the second movie Rudd earns a screenwriting credit for, behind his 2008 comedy Role Models, which he wrote alongside director David Wain, Ken Marino and Timothy Dowling. He is also on the creators behind the short-lived Starz series Party Down, which he made alongside Rob Thomas, John Enbom and Dan Etheridge.

When speaking with Collider, McKay explained what Rudd and himself changed in the script, including "a giant action sequence" and making the movie "a little bigger, a little more aggressive, and funnier in places." The story structure, however, was molded from the original Wright and Cornish screenplay. At one point in time, it was even believed McKay was going to direct this movie before Peyton Reed officially took the job following Wright's depature.

In case you somehow missed the new trailer yesterday after it premiered on Agent Carter and landed online, follows Scott Lang (Rudd), a criminal sought by scientist Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) to use his new technology to become the world's one-and-only size-changing superhero.
