Review: Like Pacific - 'Like Pacific EP'

Pure Noise Records has managed a lot of great talent throughout the years. From State Champs to Vanna (and now Hit The Lights) and Man Overboard, Senses Fail, The Story So Far, and even Transit; PN has been able to consistently handle and release good music from good artists.

Another solid release off of Pure Noise is Like Pacific EP from Like Pacific, the five-piece band from Toronto, which is a hard-hitting, melodic, pop-punk endeavor worthy of being ranked amongst the top punk releases of the year. To get it out of the way quickly, there a very large and undeniable similarity between Like Pacific and pop-punk superstars The Story So Far. TSSF may be more melodic, but all-in-all the two bands share quite a bit in common.

With that being said, Like Pacific is a solid, fun and powerful band; one that uses strong, fierce guitar riffs with raw, thrusting vocals.

The best track on the album, “105 McCaul Street” is fast and hard. Reminiscent of a less melodic Handguns, the song is catchy and addictive, with rock-hard guitar chugging and impassioned melodies. The other songs are quite good as well, with “Suffering” again being catchy and captivating.

“Eviction” is another great punk track that boasts solid group chants and incredible, insatiable guitar riffs to create a neat head-banging song.

The only real problem with the EP is that it is too short (five tracks) but all in all, this is a good record from an up-and-coming band.
