Authories in Ocoee, Florida are working to figure out why hundreds of teenagers stormed a movie theater located in the city’s West Oaks Mall.
Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that 300 teenagers managed to get inside the building before they were able to close the security gates. One moviegoer, Jessica Weckerly, was on a Valentine’s date with her husband, Brian, when they heard the sounds of people rushing the building.
“My anxiety hit the roof. I was like, ‘How do we get out?’” she stated. She also described the teenagers rushing in “like a herd of elephants.”
Because there were close to 900 juveniles attempting to enter, police “called for assistance from surrounding agencies,” a Lieutenant Paul Hopkins with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office said.
WOFL Fox 35 Orlando reported the incident occurred Saturday around 10 pm. One person was arrested in connection with drugs and another faced arrest for battery as well as resisting an officer.
There were also reports of a gun being fired and one person was robbed. However, no injuries were reported.
