Conan O’Brien became the first American late night talkshow host to film an episode in Cuba when he and his crew went to Havana last week. Their trip will be featured in a Conan episode next week.
The show’s reps told Deadline that they hope to give their viewers a look at daily life in Cuba and they filmed over the weekend. The footage will air during the March 4 episode on TBS.
Conan’s trip was made possible thanks to President Obama’s decision to lift the embargo on Cuba, which has been in place since 1962. Since then, American businesses have been able to explore opportunities there. Even Netflix launched service there.
Of course, Conan is well known for his long road trips for episodes. He’s filmed in New York, Chicago, Dallas and Atlanta. He also taped episodes in Ireland, Finland and Canada.
This is the first time an American late night host has traveled to Cuba since 1959, when Jack Paar interviewed Fidel Castro.
Conan airs on TBS at 11 p.m. weekdays.
