Gina Carano joins Ryan Reynolds' 'Deadpool'

Former MMA fighter Gina Carano continues to break into film and has added another big movie to her schedule. She will star in Deadpool, the long-gestating X-Men spin-off starring Ryan Reynolds.

The casting was first reported by the Hollywood Reporter. She will stars as Angel Dust, who could be a member of the underground mutant group The Morlocks.

Reynolds is starring the title role. Deadpool is a wise-cracking mercenary who is part of the Marvel’s X-Men universe, so Fox has the film rights to the character.

T.J. Miller will also star in a comic relief role. THR says that the X-Men character Colossus is also expected to appear, but didn’t say who would play him.

We are still a full year away from Deadpool hitting theaters. It is currently scheduled to open outside of the traditional summer movie season on Feb. 12, 2016. Tim Miller, who has been attached to the project for years, is still going to direct, with Lauren Shuler Donner producing.

Reynolds gave fans an update on Twitter this week, posting a picture with the familiar Deadpool mask being made.

As for Carano, her next immediate project is Extraction with Bruce Willis. She just finished work in Bus 657 with Robert De Niro, Kate Bosworth and Dave Bautista.
