Graham Moore encourages everyone to 'stay weird,' shares suicide attempt during 'The Imitation Game' Oscars speech (Video)

When Graham Moore went onstage to accept the award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Imitation Game, he brought a big message with him.

While clutching his award, he confessed to attempting suicide at the age of 16 because he didn’t feel like fit in.

"When I was 16 years old I tried to kill myself because I felt weird and I felt different and I felt like I did not belong. And now I'm standing here," he said.

He took that moment to give hope to young people out there who might be feeling the same feelings he felt then, encouraging them to “stay weird” and “stay different.”

"I would like for this moment to be for that kid out there who feels like she's weird or she's different or she doesn't fit in anywhere. Yes you do. I promise you do,” he continued, The AP reports. “You do. Stay weird. Stay different. And then when it's your turn and you are standing on the stage, please pass the same message to the next person who comes along."

The Imitation Game is about Alan Turing, who did commit suicide in 1954 after being prosecuted for his sexual orientation despite using his genius to help crack the Nazi code during World War II.
