Hugh Grant doesn't want you to see his film 'The Rewrite' or any other rom-com on Valentine's Day

Hugh Grant is known for starring in rom-coms like Music and Lyrics opposite Drew Barrymore, Notting Hill with Julia Roberts and Two Weeks Notice with Sandra Bullock, but he warns people not to watch any romantic comedies on Valentine’s Day.

His new film The Rewrite - also a rom-com – is out on video-on-demand on Friday and surprisingly, Grant doesn’t want us to see it this weekend.

He told Time he thinks if couples watch the film or any other romantic comedy on Valentine’s Day, it sort of sets the man up to fail, because they can’t possibly emulate the leading man.

“It can be very uncomfortable,” he said. “It sets up this perfect paradigm of love. And my experience with my relationships at least is they’re never remotely like that — I’m not remotely like that. So I think it’s a dangerous thing to do."

He went on to joke, “I suppose I’m not selling the movie very well,” adding he thinks “people should see the film, but I don’t necessarily think it’s a Valentine’s Day treat.”

Check out his interview on the Today Show, where he did a better job of promoting it:
