Jason Jones leaving 'The Daily Show' to star in TBS series

After being on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a correspondent for nearly a decade, Jason Jones is ready to move on. He will star in a new TBS series he co-created with his wife and fellow Daily Show contributor, Samantha Bee.

Jones made the announcement on Twitter, first writing, “For 9 & 1/2 years, I have worked at one of the greatest TV shows of all time. But...It is time for me to go.” He later added, “That said, I am ecstatic to announce that I'm about to make another great show over @tbsveryfunny.”

Comedy Central did confirm to Deadline that Bee will remain with the show. Jones’ final Daily Show episode will be later this year.

TBS announced on Monday that it has ordered an untitled pilot from Jones and Bee to go straight to series, with 10 episodes to start. The series is based on the couple’s hectic family vacations.

Jones stars, along with Natalie Zea (Justified), Ashley Gerasimovich (Louie) and Liam Carroll (The Neighbors). Bee and Jones are executive producers and Steve Pink (Hot Tub Time Machine) directed the pilot.

The series will debut in fall 2015.

Jones has been frequently passed over by Comedy Central for bigger roles at the network. He was not picked to fill in for Jon Stewart while he filmed Rosewater in summer 2013. In 2014, when Stephen Colbert left The Colbert Report, Larry Wilmore was picked to host a show. Jones’ only shot at hosting The Daily Show came in October, when he helmed a chaotic show because Stewart was out sick.

Stewart announced earlier this month that he will leave the series after hosting since 1999.
