Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper create Hollywood Vampires supergroup

Johnny Depp may hate other actors becoming musicians, but he certainly has one exception: himself. So, it’s no surprise that he’s joined a supergroup with Alice Cooper and Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry.

The group, called the Hollywood Vampires, will make their debut at the Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro. According to a statement on Cooper’s Instagram profile, the group will perform on the main stage, sharing the bill with Queens of the Stone Age and System of a Down.

As Rolling Stone points out, the group’s name comes from the loose collection of rock stars Cooper created in the mid-1970s at the Rainbow Bar and Grill in Los Angeles.

Depp and Cooper have only become close friends recently, since they met on the set of Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows. In the film, Depp played a vampire and Cooper made an appearance as himself. After that, Depp was spotted at Cooper’s 2012 show at the Orpheum in LA.

Depp has performed with several other groups recently, which made his comments about actors who become musicians last month sound a little strange.

“That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it’s always just made me sick,” Depp said at the Berlin premiere for his latest flop, Mortdecai. “I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records and it’s still going. Music is still part of my life. But you won’t be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist.”
