There are many options for raising money for charity, like running in a marathon or just donating directly to a foundation. But one man has found a new way to raise money and it will put the limits of the human ear to test. He has agreed to listen to 168 straight hours of only Nickelback.
Podcaster Jesse Carey launched a campaign with Charity:Water to raise $10,000. If he reached that goal, he promised to torture himself with the music of one of the world’s worst bands for a week. He reached the goal on Feb. 12 and there is still 42 days left to donate. He has raised $15,872.
“I’m willing to put my personal health at risk for the challenge,” Carey wrote, notes The Daily Star. “Obviously, exposure to such a large quantity of Nickelback is very dangerous.”
He claims he even consulted doctors to see if the challenge was safe for his ears.
“To my understanding, most jurisdictions frown on listening to more than 4 Nickelback songs back-to-back,” Carey wrote. “I have retained several lawyers in case some hot-shot prosecutor decides to press charges.”
Thankfully, Carey isn’t doing this just to settle a childish bet. He’s raising money for Charity:Water, which raises money for children around the world who do not have access to clean water.
