Marisa Tomei is heading to TV to star in Ms., a new HBO miniseries, as activist Gloria Steinem.
The series centers on Ms. Magazine, which launched in 1971 during the Women’s Movement, its creators and the women who read it. Kathy Najimy (Veep, Sister Act) will co-star as the late Bella Abzug, one of the other key figures of the Women’s Movement.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Steinem will be a consultant on the series. George Clooney and his frequent producing partner Grant Heslov are executive producing, along with Tomei, Bruce Cohen and Najimy.
Tomei won an Oscar for 1992’s My Cousin Vinny and has also been nominated for her supporting roles in In The Bedroom and The Wrestler. More recent roles include Clooney’s The Ides of March, Parental Guidance and Love Is Strange. She was last seen on TV in Rescue Me.
Steinem was recently played on the big screen by Sarah Jessica Parker in Lovelace.
