Some may say that American entrepreneurship is dead, but one Massachusetts man has found an untapped market and is cashing in. Kyle Waring of Manchester-by-the-Sea is shipping snow to anyone who wants it and people are actually buying it.
Waring started ShipsNowYo.com earlier this month and is selling six-pound blocks of snow for $89. He ships them in a thick Styrofoam container to ensure that it doesn’t melt too much during travel. If you want something a bit cheaper, you can get a 16.9oz bottle of snow for $19.99.
He will ship all over the country, but is refusing to send his snow to anyone in the Northeast. After all, residents from Rhode Island to Maine just have to walk out their door for free snow. “We're in the business of expunging snow,” Waring wrote on his site.
Initially, Waring was only selling the water bottles, but he decided to expand his services to include the giant blocks. He explained to Boston.com how he plans to ship the blocks to keep them from melting.
“I put the snow in a plastic bag, and put that in tinfoil,” Waring told the site. “Then I put that package in an insulated container that’s an inch and a half thick, and ship it overnight. It’s sealed tight in Omaha steaks packaging.”
People are actually buying this stuff. Overnight, he tweeted that Tuesday was record-breaker, with over 30 orders placed.
Waring is going to offer 10-pound blocks of snow for $119.
