Melissa Rivers speaks out on Joan Rivers Oscars 'in memoriam' snub

The moment Joan Rivers was left out of the “in memoriam” segment at the Oscars on Sunday night, her fans took to Twitter to complain. Despite that anger, her only daughter, Melissa Rivers, had a classy response to the snub.

Melissa took to Facebook on Monday, where she wrote that it would have been nice for her mom to be mentioned, but it wasn’t a big deal for her. Instead, she said she’s been “overwhelmed” by the support fans have shown both her and her son, Cooper, since Rivers died in September.

“It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom's passing and we choose to focus on that,” Melissa wrote.

While Rivers didn’t make a big impact on the big screen, she was still a mainstay during the awards season, interviewing stars on the red carpet. She was also an integral part of the E!’s awards season coverage as a star on Fashion Police.

Rivers was not the only star snubbed during the “in memoriam” segment. Elaine Stritch and Richard Keil were among the other stars who died in 2014 who were left out.

“Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show. She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com,” an Academy spokesman told the Hollywood Reporter Monday.
