Movie theater accidentally plays 'Fifty Shades' instead of 'Spongebob'

Whoever decided releasing 50 Shades of Grey and The Spongebob Movie clearly didn’t think about any technical issues involved in theaters that had both movies at the same time.

According to the Denver Post, parents sat down in a movie theater in Colorado when the R-rated movie Fifty Shades of Grey began playing instead of the wholesome kids movie. One grandfather, Joe Jaramillo, who took his granddaughter to see the film reported that “People ran out of there. You could hear little kids going, ‘Spongebob! Spongebob!’ as the parents were dragging them out.”

Luckily someone was able to immediately inform staff members so they could stop the movie from playing the risqué sequences. Soon, kids movie previews began to play in place of the raunchy film.

The president of Metropolitan Theatres, David Corwin, said the films are located on the same server on the theater’s computers and a chip problem caused the mix-up. Spongebob is only supposed to be on during the day while Fifty Shades is on at night.

Luckily, the film didn’t begin with any raunchy scenes, so none of the kids were psychologically harmed from seeing R-rated things they should not see.

CinemaBlend said Jaramillo thought things were sketchy when the trailers before the movie came up with romantic undertones, but luckily the children in the audience were not aware of anything amiss.

This is the second time parents have had a close call when it came to the two films. Recently, a drive-in theater played the movies side by side.
