Singer Ricky Martin is going to get to test his skills as a judge. He will be starring on La Banda, a new Univision reality show from Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment and Saban.
Martin will also serve as an executive producer on the series, which aims to find the next big Latin pop boy band. According to Billboard, auditions will start on March 7 in Los Angeles.
The winner will get to put their training to use in the recording studio, with a contract with Sony Music Latin.
“There is a generation in Latin America that is desperately hoping for something like this,” Martin told Billboard. “It's a phenomena that happens every decade, and now is the time.”
Martin made the announcement during an interview on the Premio Lo Nuestro 2015 red carpet, notes the Latin Times.
Of course, the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer knows a thing or two about Latin boy bands. He was a member of the Menudo group, starting at age 13. He also appeared in the fictional TV group Muñecos De Papel from Alcanzar Una Estrella II.
Martin just released a new album, A Quien Quiera Escuchar, which debuted at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums Billboard chart.
