Scorpion stings woman on flight with Oregon State basketball team

The Oregon State men’s basketball team had much more to worry about than their next game on a flight from Los Angeles back to Portland, Oregon. Their flight was delayed thanks to a scorpion.

The scorpion managed to get on a bag owned by a passenger who had just been in Mexico. According to OregonLive, the Alaska Airlines flight was delayed by 30 minutes at LAX after it had to return to the gate. The flight finally arrived in Portland at around 11 p.m.

It’s not clear what the condition of the woman is yet, but she did stay in Los Angeles for treatment. As for the scorpion, another passenger stepped on it.

“The plane was coming from Mexico before us, and [the scorpion] was on the plane,” Oregon State Beavers coach Wayne Tinkle told ESPN. “The woman was a real champ. She acted like it was a mosquito bite. They got it off her but the needle was stuck.”

It certainly was the last thing the team needed Saturday night. Earlier, they lost to USC, 68-55.

At least it wasn’t a snake.
