Seattle Seahawks John Schneider said that he is still not certain if his star running back will return next season or retire.
USA Today Sports noted that Lynch’s future wasn’t the only thing he was asked about Thursday when he spoke at the NFL Scouting Combine. Schneider was also asked about the team’s crushing loss, which came down to the final seconds of Super Bowl XLIX.
"I'm not over it – Do I wake up in cold sweats? When you wake in the morning and think about it, absolutely, it's something that will stick with us forever," he said. "And it will keep driving us to get better."
Schneider then revealed that he still doesn’t know if Lunch will decide to leave the game. The running back still has one year remaining on a four-year, $30-million extension and his base salary next season is $5 million. The Seahawks general manager told reporters that although he didn’t know, he wouldn’t really be surprised if the 28-year-old hangs up his cleats.
"He's a guy that kind of beats to his own drum. He does what he wants. He would never let you know one way or the other. There's been a lot of great running backs that have just walked away. So I have no idea."
If Lynch does retire, however, many fans would be shocked and upset to see a guy in his prime go, but he will forever be loved in Seattle.
In other Seahawks news, cornerback Jeremy Lane will undergo offseason knee surgery. He reportedly suffered the injury during the Super Bowl.
