State Department official accused of soliciting sex with minor

A State Department official is scheduled to make a court appearance Wednesday after he was arrested and accused of soliciting sex with a juvenile.

The Associated Press reported that Fairfax County Police Department spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said that Daniel Rosen was arrested Tuesday at his home in Washington D.C. for allegedly electronically soliciting a minor.

Rosen was taken into custody "following a series of online exchanges" with a detective in the county’s Child Exploitation Unit, according to Caldwell.

She added that he has been charged with using a communications device to solicit a minor.

He was placed on administrative leave by the State Department following his arrest.

The Los Angeles Times noted that the 44-year-old’s biography lists him as a counter-terrorism official responsible for policy and strategic planning. It also said that he worked as a senior advisor with the U.S. State Department's Office of the Coordinator for Counterterrorism. He attended the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.
