Caféïne has released New Love and with this new musical effort has found a way to combine rock 'n' roll, EDM and at times a touch of folk inspiration into a hit record. Every instrument and vocal that is featured on New Love is from the creative mastermind of Caféïne himself.
Xavier Caféïne is a French-Canadian rock 'n' roll artist currently leaving in Los Angeles, California. Which might be why this album features so many musical influences and a willingness to experiment.
From the opening track, "New Love," the album comes out swinging. The melody is catch and upbeat and features different musical instrumentals that come together to create this rock EDM mix which feels unique. It is the type of music that isn't heard often on the charts because it came from such an out of the box thought process. This album captures Caféïne's ability to be creative and highlights his growing musicianship talent. Each single transitions into the next and feels like it is building a bigger musical picture.
Songs like "I Love You" and "No Love" really push a more EDM driven sound but it is balanced out with other tracks on the album that has a stronger rock vibe to the melody.
At times this album seems weird and out of place, it bounces around with it's influences but Caféïne's vocals and passion in delivery lyrically help to pull everything together. This is the kind of music that could go into one extreme or the other but he has found a way to balance between rock and EDM in a way that is pleasing and fun for the listening audience.
New Love was produced by Gus Van Go and his touch helps to make the album feel very clean, modern and polished. Van Go took his musical vision and streamlined it into a way that would be digestible to the listening audience.
New Love is different and might take a few listens to really understand the complexity of the album but in an industry that is focusing on simple beats and dumbed down pop lyrics, complexity and a willingness to be creative is a much needed breath of fresh air.
