Hillary Clinton address email controversy in news conference

After controversy erupted regarding Hillary Clinton’s use of a personal e-mail address for business communications, Clinton held a press conference today to discuss the situation.

The New York Times reported that the email address she used during her time as secretary of state was used for the sake of convenience and she also fielded questions from reporters in regards to politics.

Much of the controversy stemmed from questions about if Clinton did not use an official email address to avoid correspondence from opponents and journalists who may have wanted to make requests for federal records.

As previously reported, federal code states that government email addresses should be used so all correspondence would be retained for government record.

Nick Merrill, her spokesperson, had said that she was not the first secretary of state to use her personal email account and she made sure to email those individuals on their department accounts during government business correspondence.

Last week, Clinton took to Twitter to ask the State Department to release 50,000 pages of correspondence for the public.

USA Today reported that the State Department had allowed her to use her private email as long as the records were kept.
