The trailer for Mr. Holmes has landed and proves that there really is no limit when it comes to Sherlock Holmes stories. Sir Ian McKellen stars in the film as a retired Sherlock Holmes, who is hoping to solve one last mystery.
The project is based on Mitch Cullin’s novel A Slight Trick of the Mind, which was adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher. Bill Condon, who directed McKellen to an Oscar nomination in Gods and Monsters, directed the film. Condon also directed the last two Twilight films, Dreamgirls and The Fifth Estate.
Mr. Holmes sees Sherlock as a retired detective, who decides to have another look at his very last case in order to finally solve it. Laura Linney co-stars.
McKellen posted a first look at his Holmes in July. The film also screened out of competition at the Berlin Film Festival in January.
Mr. Holmes opens in theaters in the U.K. in June. A U.S. release date has not been set yet.
