'Jane The Virgin' recap- 'Chapter Fifteen'

Jane The Virgin began this week with a young Jane asking her mom questions about topics such as the sky being blue and about the electoral college. Her final question is about knowing you’re in love and her mom mentions that there is a glow inside your heart. However, this isn’t exactly what she wanted to hear since Jane wants a “clear answer.”

In the present, Jane and Rafael are waiting patiently (impatiently in Jane’s case) to find out the results of the amniocenteses. She decides to call them at 9:01 and when she gets a hold of Doctor Hillcroft and he tells her the baby is healthy. They are both relieved and Rafael asks to “unpin” their previous discussion two weeks earlier about moving in. Jane tells him that while she’d love to say yes, she isn’t ready to throw out the order of how she wanted her life to be (“date, get engaged, get married, then have a baby,” despite the baby thing happening first).

Meanwhile, Rogelio and Xiomara have finished having sex when Rogelio gets a call from his costumer for the new show he will be part of. He tells the costumer he can dress just fine in anything except peach. Xiomara asks if he is happy working under his rival, Esteban, and he assures her he is fine. After he leaves, Xiomara pulls out a pregnancy test.

Jane is leaving the hotel when Michael comes in. He stops her and tells her that her favorite author, Angelique Harper, is checking into the hotel. She is excited and we see a flashback from 18 months previous when the two of them were discussing the passionate novel Jane was reading. Michael reminds Jane that it is a crime to stalk people and she does her best to keep cool.

She goes to tell Rafael and he tells her about a private reading Angelique is doing at the hotel. He offers to get her down there and makes sure that she won’t accost the author. Jane is just excited and getting it out before she does a happy dance. As she leaves, Scott (Petra’s personal assistant) comes in and tells Rafael that Lachlan has called and he heard Petra say she wanted to make sure he was there in person so she could fire him.

Rafael goes to find Petra and tells her that she can’t fire Lachlan and they can work together, but she doesn’t want his help.

Jane is in her bedroom typing away a passionate love story that she wants to give to Angelique in the hopes of being discovered as a writer. She goes to the reading and is happy to see Angelique as she does a reading of something she is working on. But as Angelique speaks, Jane realizes that the story is about her and she is told to stand up. After she does so, Angelique reads the next part about Jane seeing her “one true love” approach. Jane turns and sees Rafael, who gets down on one knee, much to Jane’s dismay. He proceeds to propose to her, but she quietly whispers, “Can we talk in private?”

Rafael and Jane leave to talk and she points out that there is usually a discussion about being engaged before a proposal. He insists she was hinting at being engaged and we see a flashback of his point of view of their talk about moving in, where he read more into her words than she meant. He tells her that in his proposal, he meant it when he talked about the fact they were meant for each other and he asks her again.

Back at home, Jane tells her mom and grandmother that she had told Rafael she’d consider his proposal. Xiomara is for Jane saying no because they’ve only known each other for a short time, but Alba points out she knew Jane’s grandfather for 41 days when they got engaged. Xiomara and Alba begin arguing while Jane simply leans back without a word.

Petra is in the elevator when Lachlan comes in. They exchange brief words where Petra reveals she won’t fire him and that she had him come back so he could do some work. She goes down the hall and Scott tells her someone is waiting for her- it’s Aaron, Roman’s brother. She is walking by the bed when he stops her to save a bug and he tells her about his religion about being careful with all living things (Jainism). Aaron tells her he wants to know more about the final days his brother had, including where his ashes are. Petra reveals they were “respectfully scattered.” Yes, they were…over the head of the man she was holding hostage. Aaron tells her he wants to have dinner to talk about his brother.

Rogelio is outraged when he sees the costume for his character, which is peach. Esteban comes by to tell him it was chosen because he “pops” against the color peach.

Alba finds a magazine that has a test to see whether someone is the right one to marry. Xiomara and Jane tease her because of how old it is. Alba reads some of the questions, such as whether the man is generous and kind, and Jane answers yes. However, she pauses at a question about the person knowing her down to her core.

Rafael is working out when Lachlan comes in. He wants them to work together in order to overthrow Petra, but Rafael reminds him that she has the shares that are more controlling. Lachlan shows Rafael a video of himself and Petra having sex and says they could blackmail her in order to get Petra in trouble with the board, who are very conservative.

Jane is walking toward the food truck to get a cubano (sandwich) when she sees Michael. They joke about the food truck being his and when he orders her a cubano, the man, Alex, is excited when he thinks they are having a baby. Michael and Jane tell them the truth, which leads to some awkwardness. He asks her about the manuscript and whether she “attacked” Angelique, which Jane teases him about. A flashback shows a moment when Jane is reading from Harper’s book and Michael is excited. In the present, they get their sandwiches and Michael pays for them before she leaves.

Xiomara sees Rogelio come home and they sit down to talk. She reveals to him that she might be pregnant and he offers to support her. But when she tests him by saying she isn’t, he mentions that it would be horrible if she were. Xiomara becomes upset and tells him she was testing him, which he isn’t happy about either.

Rafael and Jane sit at the beach, where Jane plans to test him. She wants to find out if he knows her down to her core and she says she might take time off from writing after the baby is born. At first, he is supportive, but then tells her that she shouldn’t take time off since she’s always dreamed of writing. Jane is happy about him passing the test, but when he finds out, he admits he is hurt. He tells her there is no test that he would need to prove he wants to marry her and he leaves to go back to work. Jane imagines herself as one of the women in her novels running toward Rafael to say yes to his proposal. Instead, she sits sadly on the beach.

Petra has dinner with Aaron, but he’s not eating since root vegetables loose their microorganisms when they are uprooted. They talk about her relationship with Roman and he informs her that when he went through his brother’s belongings, he couldn’t find his mother’s necklace. Petra tells him she has the necklace and will give it back to him.

Jane is talking to one of her co-workers, Luca, about Rafael and he points out Angelique. Jane gets her writing and is about to go talk to Angelique, but a phone call she is on puts Angelique in a bad mood.

Meanwhile, Petra tells Rafael she is busy and he informs her that the sex tape is in his hands.

Jane gets home to see her mom and finds out that her mom is pregnant. She is disappointed that her mom would put herself in that position, especially with everything going on with her daughter.

In the hotel, the staff is looking at a video of the sex tape between Lachlan and Petra. Rafael sees them looking at it and Luca reveals that it has been viewed in different places. Rafael goes to talk to Petra, who informs him that she is the one who spread it so that Lachlan couldn’t hold it over her head. She also tells Rafael she is going to tell the board that her private files had been stolen and they would be on her side because of it. She tells Rafael she wants to work together and he asks her when she is meeting with them.

Xiomara goes to talk to Jane and tells her she found out that she isn’t pregnant. Jane apologizes for getting upset and Xiomara tells her that she probably missed a pill on purpose because she is almost done being a mom and it was her most successful job. Jane reminds her that her job is not done and that things are just different. The conversation turns to Rafael’s proposal and Xiomara reminds her of the time she found Michael’s list of a savings plan to buy her engagement ring. Xiomara tells Jane that she didn’t question it and even though Jane points out it might not have been right after all that happened, Xiomara reminds her that she knew how to feel about being sure of her answer.

Jane tells Rafael reluctantly that her answer is no and she had been afraid to admit it because she was worried a part of their relationship would be broken. She tells him she loves him and that she just wants to take things slow. Before they finish talking, her phone beeps to let her know Angelique’s massage is over. Rafael tells her to go when she informs him she wanted to drop off her manuscript when she was in a good mood. He also needs some time alone.

Jane goes to see Angelique, only to discover the author is ready for her massage that she had asked to be pushed back. Angelique sees she has a manuscript and Jane tries to avoid the situation, but she gets on the table after telling Jane she might read it after seeing how the massage is. Jane tries to say who she really is, but Angelique wants silence. Jane reluctantly begins massaging her, only to discover Angelique booked for 90 minutes and wants her glutes done as well.

Petra and Rafael give Lachlan a stack of papers, telling him to check all of the spending for the hotel.

Xiomara sees Rogelio acting against Esteban and sees he isn’t too happy. She lets him know about the non-pregnancy and apologizes for the test. He tells her not to feel bad about him staying in Miami because he wants to see where they go. Xiomara then decides to ask him if they get move in together.

Jane and Michael pass each other on the pier and she begins to excitedly tell him about the massage, telling him that Angelique fell asleep before she finished and she snuck out. At that moment, Rafael walks by and sees them.

Meanwhile, Petra goes to Aaron’s apartment to give him the necklace. After he closes the door, he breaks the necklace open to pull out a usb flash drive.
