Leonard Nimoy's son working on film about his father, 'For The Love of Spock'

Leonard Nimoy’s son, Adam Nimoy, said last week that he plans to make a documentary about his father, affectionately titled For The Love of Spock. The film’s release will be timed with the 50th anniversary of Star Trek, which comes in 2016.

“This will be a tribute to my dad and Spock,” Adam Nimoy told Variety on Friday. “We have plenty to work from because my dad loved telling stories and he was very fond of the role.”

Zachary Quinto, the only other adult actor to play Spock, will narrate the film. Nimoy passed the role on to Quinto for the last two Trek films, directed by J.J. Abrams. He will play the role again in the next one.

David Zappone of 455 Films, a Paramount-based label, will produce Adam Nimoy’s film.

Adam Nimoy explained that he and his father spoke about making a film before his death on Feb. 27. Even after announcing that he had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Nimoy still insisted on working on the film, which will cover the legacy of Nimoy’s Spock character.

William Shatner, who played Kirk opposite Spock, will appear in the film.

As for Adam Nimoy, he has directed several TV episodes and was an attorney in entertainment law.
