Actor Ryan Phillippe spoke to Variety about the teen movies he was a part of almost 20 years ago, including the film I Know What You Did Last Summer, which is being remade. He also talked about being mistaken for his own daughter’s brother!
Variety reported that when talking about whether or not Phillippe noticed the star power he had come into, he said that even now, he has not had a moment where he thought “’I’ve made it.’” He described himself as trying to stay “humble.”
He talked about his new show Secrets and Lies, which he said is something he can relate to more as a father than he would have back in his early years since he didn’t have those experiences yet.
As for the remake of I Know What You Did Last Summer, he talked about being “excited” about the movie, even though it left him feeling old.
However, despite his age at 40, he still gets carded, according to E! News. Phillippe revealed how his daughter Ava, whose mother is actress Reese Witherspoon, feels about his youthful look. Apparently, she “hates it, because sometimes people have thought I’m her brother, and she’s freaked out by that.”
Phillippe also described the early teen movies, like Cruel Intentions, did mark the finality of his “innocence” since he got married and had kids soon afterwards.
In describing how he feels about the movies he made early on, Phillippe said, “I guess they’re seminal teen movies, and that’s a cool thing. It’s cool to have something in your career that people love over generations.”
