'Secrets and Lies' Recap: 'The Affair'

On Secrets and Lies, we left off with Ben finding out that Tom was his son only after he found his dead body in the woods. Detective Cornell believes Ben killed Tom and will stop at nothing to prove it. Scott, who raised Tom threatened Ben while he slept in his own house.

Ben: Was gun browsing with Dave because of the threat from Scott and he wanted to find Scott to clear his own name, but he didn't buy the gun.

Christy: Ben complimented her on how pretty she looked and her expensive new earrings. She was leaving the house for a function and Ben apologized again. She replied, “For knocking Jess up or having me find out on TV? ”

Ben and Jess: Ben snuck over to Jess’ place to check on her. Ben told her that Scott knew about the paternity. Jess told him that she only told her sister. The two of them called her sister and she didn’t answer so they drove over there. Jess had a key. She told Ben that her sister would never not answer her call. They came in to find Scott and her sister in bed having sex. Jess tried to confront them, but Ben held her back.

Cornell: Ben and Jess called Cornell because they found Scott. Cornell came to bring Scott in for questioning. Jess asked if he confessed. Cornell said she can't disclose that information.

Ben and Abby: As he talked to her about going to the town village that is done up for the holiday, he remembered a time when he and the family were at the town village. Jess and their son Tom were there as well. Ben and Tom had a mini heart to heart, almost like a dad and son moment only at the time he did not know that Tom was his.

Ben, his daughters and Dave were putting up christmas lights inside the house. Dave asked for a ladder. Ben went out to the car. He opened the trunk to his vehicle and the flashlight rolled out, right into his hands. He looked around and immediately hid in his shirt.

While Ben was alone in his garage he inspected the flashlight that had what looked like mud and/ or blood on it. He got some on his hand then he heard Christy calling his name, she opened the door and asked him inside. He immediately wiped it up in a towel then wrapped it in the towel and stuffed it in a school bag then he locked it in a metal cabinet. Finally, he put the key in the drawer.

While Ben, Christy and the girls were at the village, all the neighbors who were there too were staring. Then one of the neighbors looked for her kid who is a special needs kid. Christy and Ben told her where they spotted him. Then as some of the neighbors were sitting to eat, Abby and a neighborhood boy got into a fight because he called Ben a baby killer. Both Ben and the neighbors dad took care of the situation and made the kids apologize.

The following morning, Ben went for a run on the same trail. When he came running back, Cornell was coming inside garage. Cornell wanted the receipt for the flashlight. She told them that if the flashlight doesn't match the murder weapon, it would clear him. Ben asked about a search warrant. Cornell explained it will be easier this way. He went along with it and used the key to open the cabinet so Christy can look in the file box for the receipt that happened to be in the same closet with the flash light. Ben was completely nervous and hoped Cornell didn't want to look anywhere else. As Christy was ruffling through the file box Cornell told he she would take it so she doesn't take up their time. Christy handed her the files.

Ben yelled at Christy for helping Cornell. Christy tried to explain her actions. He pleaded with her to stand by him, if not for him, but for their girls.
He wrapped up the flashlight to look like a gift box and placed it under tree with other gifts. I guess Ben feels Cornell won't look there! Good hiding spot?

While Ben was in his car he seen a bike bell in the car that he intended to give Tom for Christmas. He took the bell to Toms grave and as he talked to his grave stone about the gift telling Tom Merry Christmas, Scott showed up. Scott got out of jail because he needed to be proven guilty and they can't hold him as he had an alibi. They had a conversation where Ben told him that he didn't kill him and Scott is upset he couldn't go to his own sons funeral. Scott says, “For your sake i hope you didn't.” Then Ben replied with, “For what its worth, I know he was your son. Im sorry for your loss.” He left the bell on the tomb stone.

Ben went to tell Jess that Scott did not kill Tom. Jess was confused and wanted to know who did if it wasn't Scott. She told him she needs to know. He assured her that he will find out and he promised her. Then he went home.

While Christy was in the bathroom, Ben found a bag with new panties, a negligee plus a pregnancy test in the bottom of bag which is funny because they haven't been sleeping together.

She came out of the bathroom. He complimented the earrings again then asked her where she's going again. He accused her of cheating because of the pregnancy test. She told him that she is not cheating and said she knew how he would wind up with that assumption. She told him that she had to go to dinner with clients and that they needed more time for the conversation he wanted to have. He automatically assumed that Christy was having an affair.

Ben and Dave: Ben told him that he found his flash light. Dave told him he needed to get rid of it. Then Dave told him that he heard the argument. Dave told him that Christy didn't cheat and the test wasn’t hers. Then by process of elimination, Ben figured out the test was Natalie’s.

Ben found out Natalie was at a party. He found out the location because she checked in online. Ben and Dave went to pick up Natalie. The boy threw a punch at Ben. Ben threw the boy to the floor and told him if he came near Natalie again, he would kill him. He went to grab Natalie who was inebriated and she stated she won't go with him. He told her to and she said, “If I don't, are you going to kill me too?” Dave grabbed her to get her out of the house knowing that it was the booze talking.

Natalie wouldnt go in truck with Ben so Ben decided to walk home and told Dave to take her home. Abby went with Ben.

The following morning, Ben told Christy that he knew it was Natalie’s. She apologized, but Natalie only told her because she promised not to tell Ben. While they were talking, Ben breaks down and got emotional. Christy told him to start sleeping in the bedroom again because Abby is asking questions.

Cornell knocked on the door with questions as she has a video of what happened at the party due to one of the fifty kids there took a video on their cellphone and they want statements because of Ben’s threat being caught on the video. She needed a statement from Dave as well.

Ben went to get Dave. As he told Dave that Cornell wanted him, he noticed body glitter on Dave’s chest. He looked at the bed which had glitter on it and his daughters heels were on floor. Ben flipped out and kicked Dave out thinking Dave did something with Natalie. He, not in so many words accused Dave of doing something with his daughter. He cracked up in front of Cornell! Cornell escorted Dave to the precinct.
