As if the blow of finding out that Tom was his son wasn't enough, he hears from his baby mama that she thinks it was her crazy ex who killed their son to hurt her.
Jess explained to him that she thinks it was her husband Scott. Scott is very angry and he went crazy when she broke it off with him. She got a restraining order because he got violent. She stated that Scott wanted her to suffer so she thinks he killed him. Scott does not know that Ben is Tom’s dad.
Upon being badgered by Cornell some more, he asked for a polygraph and the test results were inconclusive.
Ben seen his daughter Natalie across the street talking to Scott. Both Ben and Christy have a discussion with Natalie about Scott. It turns out Natalie used to let Scott see Tom. Even though Ben thought that Natalie was hiding a relationship with Scott, she explained that she felt bad for him and he gave her his silver star to put on Tom’s coffin because Jess won’t see Scott. When they found out that Natalie let Scott see Tom without Jess’s permission, they got angry and told her she was wrong. They also told her to stay away from Scott.
Ben was outside the house preparing to go on a run and heard Scott screaming at Jess. He ran in to find Scott and Jess arguing. He punched Scott in his face because he wouldn't stop screaming at Jess when he was asked to stop. Then Scott attacked him and had him by his throat. It took Jess and her sister to get Scott to stop strangling Ben. Then Scott told them he doesn't care what a test says, Tom is still his son!
Ben came home and Christy cleaned him up. She asked him if he loves Jess and if it was just the one time that Jess and he were together. His answer was he loves Christy and that it was one time. Ben confronted Cornell and asked why she wasn't going after Scott. She insinuated that there's a possibility that Ben killed Tom so Christy wouldn't find out he cheated on her with Jess. Later that night while Christy and Ben were talking, Jess called Ben to ask him to come over because she's messed up emotionally and she needed help because of Toms service the next day. He told Christy and she blatantly said that Jess should call Scott for that because he was his father.
Ben went over anyway. They sat going through things and Jess got emotional about it all. While he consoled her, she tried to kiss him. He told her that was not the answer and he went home.
Day of the Funeral
Ben assured Christy nothing happened with Jess. Cornell called him three times and he ignored every call. Upon getting to the church, the press was bothering them..
A video of memories and pictures come on during the service. Everyone was crying including Ben.
Later on, Cornell showed up at his home because she called him three times and he didn't respond. She told him there was a leak at the lab and now the press knew that Tom was Ben’s son. As shes warning him… Natalie and Christy see it on the news.
Ben told his younger daughter Abby the truth about Tom being his son. She naturally responded with tears when she found out her brother was Tom.
Dave makes Ben ask himself how Scott knew about Tom if nobody told him and it was just on the news. Christy asked Dave to leave and then she confronts Ben about Tom being his kid. She wanted to know the details about when Ben was with Jess. It turned out Christy had an abortion the day he cheated on her and ended up impregnating Jess that one time he cheated. Christy was pregnant, but she didn't want the child. She wasn't ready. He felt shut out.
He slept on the sofa. Scott came into the house and hovered over Ben on the sofa. He whispers creepily,”You ruined my family and if you don’t go to prison then I will kill you!”
