A man in Marco Island, Florida was at a beach when he was bitten by a shark while he was standing in shallow water.
According to NBC2, 63-year-old Jessen Carsten was at a private beach on Sunday when he was bitten by a shark that was around three to four feet long. The first responder to the attack, Sergio DeLeon said that “It looked like multiple bites actually at least two or three bites.”
He was at a private beach, Residents’ Beach, which is close to Marco Island’s Tigertail Beach.
The attack reportedly happened quickly and Carsten didn’t realize what happened until he saw blood.
Naples Daily News reported that the calls to 911 came around 4:30 pm although it was unclear at first what had attacked him. Carsten went to the Physicians Regional Medical Center to be treated for the bites and was later released.
David Batiatio with the Marco Island Rescue Department said it was the first shark bite to be reported in at least eight years.
