'All-New X-Men' leaked pages reveal Iceman is gay

The 40th issue of the comic book All-New X-Men is set to be released on Wednesday, but pages that were leaked have revealed an interesting fact about one of the superheroes.

According to Comic Book Resources, the character of Iceman is revealed to be gay. The comic book, which debuted in 2012, also focuses on the original X-Men characters Angel, Beast, Cyclops, and Jean Grey in addition to Iceman. It follows both the characters past and present.

In the issue, Jean Grey pulls Iceman aside after he mentions a character is hot and talks about knowing he’s gay. However, Iceman denies this and wonders why his future self doesn’t acknowledge this. He figures it may be because he couldn’t deal with “being a mutant and gay in a society that has issues with both?”

The Verge reported that Marvel has been working to diversify their characters and the confirmation of Iceman’s sexuality is possibly part of that process. In the comic book issue, a young Bobby Drake is transported to his future self’s time even though in the future, he has dated women.

Iceman is not the only character in comic books whose sexuality has been revealed. Marvel had one comic book issue that focused on the first marriage between a gay couple and Catwoman from the DC universe came out as bisexual.

The writer of the series, Brian Michael Bendis, tweeted he had hoped the reveal would be issued without fanfare.
