Cleveland Metroparks Zoo charges mother with child endangerment

The mother of the child who fell into a cheetah pit at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo has been charged after her son was injured.

According to WOIO, the mother, Michelle Schwab, faced charges from the zoo after her son fell from her arms when he was dangling over the railing of the pit.

She has been charged with endangering a child and she could be sentenced to six months in jail or face a fine of $1,000.

As previously reported, the two-year-old boy fell into the cheetah pit on Saturday while visiting the zoo with his parents. The parents were able to retrieve him quickly and none of the animals made an attempt to harm or go near him.

Witnesses during the incident had seen the parents holding the child over the railing. He ended up with an injured leg, but was otherwise in stable condition after being taken to the hospital.

Schwab is due to be in court on April 22.
