Giuliana Rancic is speaking out about the tragic passing of her friend and co-star, Joan Rivers.
Rancic’s new memoir, Going Off Script , details her final goodbye with the legendary comedian and red carpet host. Rivers passed away at the age of 81 following complications from a throat surgery.
The E! News host, who recently spoke out about her infertility issues, described the night she arrived in New York City, where Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, told her to say her goodbyes before the family unplugged the ventilator. Rancic says that Joan’s nails were “perfect” and “vampy purple.” Saying the star’s hair and make-up were fully done, the Fashion Police cast member says “Joan was just Joan sleeping.”
Rancic talks about wishing that Joan would wake up as she stood by her bed, and once she realized that wasn’t going to happen, she spent the next 15 minutes talking to her and “thanking her for taking a chance on me.”
Once Rivers passed away, Mrs. Rancic says she spent an entire day in bed crying herself to sleep, “crying until there were no tears left.”
The Giuliana and Bill star, who hasn't spoken to her Fashion Police since they quit, recalls the day she met Joan Rivers on her first day of work at E! She claims Rivers immediately began giving her advice but struggled to pronounce her name correctly. Rancic, of course, didn’t mind, saying, “I’m just so honored to be here hosting with you.”
