A helicopter crash in Malaysia claimed the lives of six individuals, including a former ambassador to the United States.

According to CNN, the crash occurred at 4:55 pm on Saturday, which is 4:55 am EST, in Semenyih near the Kampung Pasir Baru. The Prime Minister, Najib Razak, has reportedly asked for an investigation into the crash, which killed one of his staff members, Azlin Alias. A former ambassador for Malaysia to the United States, Jamaluddin Jarjis, was another victim.

In a statement to reporters after visiting the crash site, Razak said, “We have lost two figures who had made great contributions to the government, party and country in this tragedy.” He also described Jarjis as being someone who was “high caliber” and had made many “sacrifices” in his work for the government and the country.

CET reported witnesses had seen an explosion in mid-air before the helicopter came down. The Prime Minister assured people in a news conference that “no stone will be left unturned” as the investigation worked to uncover why the crash occurred.

The civil aviation department for Malaysia has reportedly started their investigation. It was also reported that the flight recorder was found to be in good condition.
