The Queen of Tejano music is set to return in her very own hologram.
Selena Quintanilla Perez, who passed away in a tragic accident 20 years ago, will have a hologram that is being referred to as a “walking, talking, singing, and dancing, digital embodiment.”
Billboard confirmed that the hologram will be happening today, after reaching out to the Quintanilla family.
The project is titled “Selena The One” and is campaigning to raise $500,000 in support of the hologram being desgined. The Mexican American icon’s father spoke about the hologram last year when he told the Associated Press that the prices are “ridiculous” and the process “requires the transportation of tons of equipment”.
This isn’t the first time a hologram has been attempted for the late Tejano singer. Her brother, A.B. told the Associated Press that the first time they attempted two years ago, they weren’t pleased with the product, saying, "we all decided that it wasn't enough for the fans...she looked like a ghost. The image was not well defined.”
The exciting news is that once the hologram is created, it is set to release new songs, will make music videos, collaborate with popular artists today, and most importantly, will go on tour in 2018.
Selena fans around the world, rejoice. How exciting.
Selena’s family is holding a festival in her honor next week in their hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. The festival is titled, “Fiesta de la Flor.”
